Darnell Culbreath

Mr. Darnell Culbreath, beloved brother, cousin and friend, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, at the age of 62. Born on July 20, 1964, in Johnston, Saluda County, SC. He was the son of Dorothy James and Walter Brunson.

Darnell was educated in the Saluda County Schools. He was baptized and became a member of the Mine Creek Baptist Church.

Many people who knew Darnell, also known as, “Cane” knew that he was a good, loving person who would give you the shirt off his back. He was a hard worker who did not mind helping his fellowman out. He loved to experience the joys of life.

Even though “Cane” was quiet, he loved having fun and enjoying family. He went to many of family gatherings and loved to pass out peppermint and other candy to the children of the family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Vivian Brown.

He leaves to love honor and remember him, two sisters, Patricia Ann James, Columbia, SC, and Marie James, Saluda SC; two brothers, Walter & Agnes James, Johnston, SC and Michael James, Saluda, SC; three cousins raised as siblings, Gloria Hill, Janie Sitton and Bill Hill and a host of other relatives and friends.
