Eddie Dinkins, Jr., aAectionally known as “Joe Dankins”, a husband, father, grandfather, a man who was of humble beginning. He was a man that didn’t have the traditional upbringing of his father in his life. At nine years old, he encountered his first taste of taking care of his family. Through God’s guidance and from many, many prayers along the way, he was able to become a husband, a father, a hard worker, a provider and a great legacy to his children. Eddie dedicated 36 years to International Paper (although it went through several name changes along the way). Eddie enjoyed sitting on the porch yelling at the neighbors and the neighbors replicated the exchange Through his life with his family, Dad was known as man with some very humorous sayings, dancing , and I knew him as the “toughest man on the planet”. Here are some quotes and fun facts: #1 Dad’s quote- “Trash get in your eyes!!!! Waddle in the mud , you get dirty!!!” #2 Dad’s quote- “Boy! Use your head besides a hat rack!!!” #3 Get down and boogie- Dad did his world famous “driving the car “ dance when those dance songs was feeling good to him!!! #4 One of his favorite snacks cornbread, bologna, and milk in a cup or bowl!!!!!!! #5 As for me (Joel) and my siblings, Dad happened to be the toughest guy on the planet! He had us working in the yard every Thursday and awarded us with our favorite snacks and Saturday’s were known as car wash day. We didn’t know it then but he was teaching us discipline. #6 The famous “Dinkins/Dankins” conversation on the phone with customer service(s).Dad will tell the person on the phone” I am Joe Dankins, and he would spell it out DINKINS”. So the person on the on the other end in of the phone would verify saying our surname properly “ That is Joe Dinkins” and he would say “That’s right Joe Dankins, that what I said”! Now all who knew my Dad know exactly what stated is true, which bring me to his true legacy he left for us all! Life, at times, can be hard but we fight through it. One of his many words of wisdom Is “Keep Going”!
