Funeral arrangements  for Mrs. Irene W. Simpkins wife of David Simpkins. She quietly passed away in Augusta at the Pruitt Health facility following a brief illness.

Mrs. Irene Jones Simpkins entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 6:30 a.m. while residing at PruittHealth in Augusta, Georgia. After a period of declining health in early 2026, the Lord gently called her home to receive her eternal reward.Irene was born on December 1, 1942, in Edgefield, South Carolina, to the late Rufus Jones Sr. and Georgia Jones. She was the third oldest of ten siblings and was raised in a loving family rooted in faith, hard work, and strong family values. She attended public schools in Edgefield, South Carolina, and later continued her education in Washington, D.C.Irene dedicated more than thirty years of service to J.E.T. Middle School in Edgefield, South Carolina. Through her commitment, leadership, and caring nature, she became the Manager of Food Services before retiring. She took pride in serving generations of students and was respected by colleagues, staff, and community members alike.At an early age, Irene joined Liberty Springs Baptist Church, where she began her Christian journey. After returning home from Washington, D.C., she became affiliated with Pleasant Lane Baptist Church. Following her marriage to David Simpkins, she moved her membership to Mount Calvary Baptist Church, where the Reverend Lewis Burt serves as Pastor. Irene faithfully served as a Deaconess and was a dedicated member of the church kitchen staff. She was also a proud member of the Freeman Grove Burial Society and the Young Men’s Honor organization. Her faith, service, and commitment to her church and community were evident throughout her life and remained an important part of her legacy.Irene was first united in marriage to the late Larry Williams. From this union, they were blessed with one daughter, Francette L. Williams, whom she loved dearly. Francette later preceded her mother in death.Years later, Irene joined in Holy Matrimony with David Simpkins. Through this union, she was blessed with five bonus daughters whom she loved as her own: Madeline Stallings of Lexington, South Carolina; the late Willette Johnston of Johnston, South Carolina; Christine Simpkins Holman (John Anthony) of Denmark, South Carolina; Josephine Satterwhite (Anthony) of North Augusta, South Carolina; and the late Trina V. Felder III (Willie) of Johnston, South Carolina.Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was known for her kind heart, gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and devotion to her family. Her warmth and compassion touched countless lives throughout her years.Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus Jones Sr. and Georgia Jones; her daughter, Francette L. Williams; her siblings, Clarence Floyd Martin, Martha Ann Self, Rufus Jones Jr., Andrew O’Neal Jones, and Elvin Jones; and her bonus daughters, Willette Johnston and Trina V. Felder III.She leaves to cherish her loving memory her devoted husband, David Simpkins; her sisters, Georgia J. Garrett (Rev. Luther) Sr. of McCormick, South Carolina, Edith Mae Jones of District Heights, Maryland, and Mary J. Cunningham (Larry) of Edgefield, South Carolina; her brother, Joe Jones of Edgefield, South Carolina; her bonus daughters, Madeline Stallings, Christine Simpkins Holman (John Anthony), and Josephine Satterwhite (Anthony); 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.She also leaves to cherish her memory her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: the late Deloris and the late Robert Stewart, the late Otis and Gladys Simpkins, the late Roger and Corine Simpkins, Betty Jean Simpkins and the late Gerald Simpkins, the late Mack and Mary Simpkins, Vivian Clayton and the late George Clayton, and Annie Doris Cook and the late Joseph Cook; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.Though Irene has departed from this earthly life, her love, wisdom, and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her life was a testament to hard work, dedication, faith, and family.
