Johnston, SC- Funeral Arrangements for Ms. Mattie L. Padgett (Phillips). She transitioned Friday, June 12, 2026 after a prolonged illness.

Mattie Lou Phillips Padgett was born December 2, 1957 the daughter of the late Willie Smith and a surviving mother Elma Phillips Cave. Mattie departed this earthly life June 12, 2026at her residence loved by many family and friends.

Mattie was baptized at an early age at the Springfield Baptist Church.

She was educated in the Edgefield County School System.

Mattie was employed by the Edgefield County School system for 20 years until she retired. Needing to keep busy, following retirement she also held many other odd jobs.

Mattie leaves to mourn but remember her passing, a loving companion, Avery Andrews, three children: Matthew Padgett(Elizabeth), Danielle N. Blacks, and Joi L Abney all of Johnston, SC. ; seven sisters, Virginia (Roslyn) Mobley, New York City, Rev. Darlenen Phillips, New York City, Erika Cave Miller, New York City, Carrie Phillips and Sarah Phillips both of Johnston, SC , Trudy Smith, Trention and Angie Smith, Augusta, GA.Four brothers, Marty Phillips (who preceded her in death), Larry Cave, New York City, John Albert Phillips( Patricia), Johnston, SCand Willie Smith, Jr, Trenton, SC

Five grandchildren, Malaysia Farrow, Jeremia Farrow, A’Rronyna Greggs, Te’ Aisha Greggs, and Zayden Greggs all of Johnston, SCand a host of aunts, uncles nieces, nephews other cousins and friends.
