Leroy Walker of Johnston, SC, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday morning, September 18, 2025.  He fought a courageous battle with cancer, never giving up the fight against this dreadful illness.

Leroy was born February 19, 1951 in Edgefield County to the late Lether Walker and John Medlock.  He graduated from W.E. Parker High School and played on the football team. He was employed in the textile industry by Riegel, the Milliken Mill of Johnston and later a poultry company.

Leroy was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Izzy Walker.

He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories:  his three children, Ulysses Walker, Johnston, SC, Leroy D Walker, Aiken, SC, and Corinthiaus (Timothy) Edwards, Jacksonville, FL; Three sisters, Ruthie Weaver, LaPlata, Maryland, Doris (Jackie) Lilley, Chester, SC and Gloria Jean (Kevin) Buggs, Edgefield, SC.

A very special and loving aunt-- Lillian Simpkins of Johnston, SC, who was like a mother to him.

He also leaves 5 grandchildren, Keyonna (Ouse’)Derilous, Jazmine Coleman, Ulyssia Walker, Katelyn Walker, and Timothy Edwards Jr., 4 great-grandchildren, Zena, Ky’lena, Tahani Newton and Orena, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Leroy loved being around people and lending a helping hand to others if there was a need.  He enjoyed cooking his favorite meals.  He was admired for his sense of humor and his compassion for people. Working came natural to him and he would make himself available for any assignment at the Kingdom Hall usually in parking or attendance.

Leroy embraced the faith of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the late 1960’s. Even though for a time he was not practicing his faith, it was always his desire to return to serving Jehovah.  He started actively serving Jehovah after the death of his mother. His incentive was based on his belief in the resurrection hope of seeing his mother and other loved ones again. This hope inspired him to leave the world behind and pursue the worship that promises everlasting life. He enjoyed starting conversations with people and telling them about his God, Jehovah. He faithfully attended his weekly meetings on Zoom.  He was a strong man with a positive attitude that refused to let his illness cripple him to the point of forgetting Jehovah. His way of life was certainly an inspiring example for all of us. He wanted to make a good name with Jehovah.

One of his favorite scriptures was - Proverbs 3: 5-6

“Trust in Jehovah with all your heart, And do not rely on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways take notice of him, And he will make your paths straight.”

He knew that whatever happened his reliance was in Jehovah.

Leroy taught his children the value of family and referred to his 3 children and himself as the four corners. Reminding them to always be there for one another.
