Etheredge

Vinnetta Etheredge, 104 passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
She was born on October 15, 1921 in Lexington County, South Carolina to the late Pank Etheredge and Daisy Pope-Jones. She attended Hampton High School in Leesville, South Carolina. She later worked at Lexington Medical Center and Lexington Medical Center Extended Care, formerly known as Rikard’s Nursing Home, in Lexington, South Carolina. Even after retirement, she continued serving others through caregiving and domestic work, a reflection of her lifelong servant’s heart.
Ms. Vinnetta enjoyed traveling, riding with family, working word search puzzles, reading the State newspaper, and watching her favorite television shows: The Price is Right, Let’s Make a Deal, Wheel of Fortune and The Young and the Restless. She had a special love for children and people and was known for her warmth and welcoming spirit. She especially loved fried chicken, string beans, and pound cake.
At an early age, she became a faithful member of Saint John Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, where she sang in the Nurses Corp. Choir before moving to the Senior Choir. She also was a Sunday school scholar, was active in missionary work, and was a devoted member of the Daisy and Dozier Circle. She found joy in simple pleasures, including visiting the Healing Springs, shopping, enjoying pedicures and manicures and getting her hair done. She also volunteered through the Leisure Center delivering Meals on Wheels.
In 2021, Ms. Vinnetta was honored as Grand Marshal of the Batesburg-Leesville Christmas parade, a testament to the impact she had on her community. She was also recognized at the 2023 South Carolina Poultry Festival as a distinguished citizen of the Batesburg-Leesville community.
She was preceded in death by her sons, James Lomax, Kirby Lomax and Benny Etheredge; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Lomax; her granddaughter, Delphine Lomax and her grandson, Byron Etheredge.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Nathan (Judy) Etheredge; two daughters-in-law, Jeretha Lomax and Jessie Etheredge; her grandchildren, Darlene Abney, Dolores (Darryle) Padgett, James “Pooky” Lomax, Crystal (Cordell) Williamson, Lisa Lomax, Brian Lomax, Eric (Ricky) Etheredge, Summer Etheredge, Tara (Marcell) Whittaker, Nathan Etheredge, II, Isaiah Etheredge and a host of loving great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
